This past week I went to see Streb: Kiss the Air performance at The Park Armory and listen to the artist talk with Elizabeth Streb afterwords. I liked the idea of Streb wondering how we occupy space and why does “dance” have to be with the soles of our feet. I was impressed by the athleticism and dedication of all the dancers. And it’s great this performance is accessible to the general public. But I didn’t enjoy the show as much as everyone else. It felt like a circus, a show just for the sake of a show to elicit applause from the audience.
I wondered if I missed something and read The New York Times review, which put it best:
Once you acclimate to the initial sight of the giant adrenaline-addict playground that confronts you when you enter the drill hall, there’s not much to see, and even less to think about.
